Color Play Friday: Evergreen State Fair

Color Play Friday is hosted by Trina from In An Otter Life and myself. If you’re new to Color Play Friday, head over to my Color Play Friday page to see the rules and my palettes and bundles from previous weeks. You can also search #colorplayfriday on Instagram to see lots of past palettes and bundles.

I chose this picture because yesterday was the opening day for the Evergreen State Fair here in Washington.

Everegreen State Fair Palette and Bundle.png

There were so many options to choose from in this photo, but I decided to go with my favorites- bright and saturated colors.

I used the Stash Design Wall feature again this week to put together my bundle. It really is a quick way to find fabrics that really look great together.

(All the following are non-affiliate links)

Here are my fabrics for this week:

Laura Gunn, Painter’s Canvas in Lemon

Sarah Jane, Sommer, Tulip Folk in Sunshine

Allison Glass, Sun Prints, Mercury in Green

Karen Lewis, Blueberry Park, Kite Tails in Lime

Allison Glass, Sunprints 2016, Grow in Turquoise

Jennifer Paganelli, Beauty Queen, Linky Love in Pink

A note about scale:

  • While I believe scale is a very important part of fabric selection, the fabrics shown in my Color Play images are not always perfectly to scale. I do my best, by you should always double check scale before ordering!

Don’t forget to head over to the other blogs and see what they came up with! The fun of Color Play Friday is seeing the differences and similarities between everyone’s bundles.

Participants this week:

Laurel and Pine (that’s me!)

Shimmy and More

There were so many beautiful peaches and pinks in Trina’s skin- I was really happy with the palette I came up with! I wanted to do a pretty, feminine bundle with some cute novelty prints thrown in, because we all know Trina loves cute things!

Quilts for Main Street

On July 22, a fire in Bothell, WA completely destroyed 15 businesses on the town’s historic Main Street. A local fabric shop, Keepsake Cottage Fabrics, is collecting blocks to make quilts to comfort the owners of those businesses.

I took some time last night to sew up some blocks. They’re asking for 6 inch (finished), red and white nine-patch blocks made using 2 1/2 inch squares.

If you’d like to join in, they have said you can make blocks and either bring them in to the shop (if you’re local) or send them to:

I went straight to the rainbow when selecting colors, and I just stayed there!  I loved the greyed-out spectrum I was getting.

This week, I decided to feature some of my fellow indie fabric designers who sell their designs on Spoonflower. I encourage you to take a look at their amazing work!

Here are the fabrics I chose (links will take you directly to the designer’s page for that fabric where you can make a purchase!):

peacouquettedesigns, Linen Lux, Dauphine

Color Play Friday: Purplishous Birthday Fry

Happy Friday! I hope you all had a fabulous week. If you’re a new follower from the 2016 New Quilt Blogger Blog Hop, welcome to Color Play Friday!

A few weeks ago, we did another picture with Purplishous. In that photo, there was a lot of red in the background that I felt like I should include in my bundle to challenge myself.  I wanted another shot at making a Purplishous-inspired bundle (without the red), so I picked this photo of Trina’s for today.

Purplishious Birthday Fry Palette and Bundle

I really wanted to focus just on the pretty teals and purples this time around. I have to say, I picked that Lizzy House unicorn print without even registering that it looks an awful lot like our little friend Purplishous!  I wonder if anyone else will chose that fabric this week.

Here are my fabric selections:

Bonnie and Camille, Vintage Picnic, Dot in Aqua

Tula Pink, Eden, Mosaic in Glacier

Lizzy House, The Lovely Hunt, Fairy Rings in Lavender

Lizzy House, The Lovely Hunt, Unicorn Tapestry in Purple

Lecien, L’s Modern Basics, Stripes in Purple

Laura Gunn, Painter’s Canvas in Purple

** I used the Design Wall feature on Stash Fabric’s website to choose this bundle. My links this week will take you directly to Stash’s website. They are not affiliate links; I just love the company!**

2016 New Quilt Bloggers’ Blog Hop

Welcome to Week 3 of the 2016 New Quilt Bloggers Blog Hop!

I’m thrilled to be participating this year with so many awesome bloggers! I’ve met some great people and we’ve had fun sharing advice and ideas.

The blog hop is split into three hives:

Hive-Sewciety-Button.jpg

Hive Sewciety, led by Stephanie from Late Night Quilter

The-Sewcial-Network-300x300.png

The Sewcial Network, led by Yvonne from Quilting Jetgirl

Miss-Bee-Hivin2

And last, but certainly not least, my hive: Miss Bee Hivin’ led by Cheryl from Meadowmist Designs

At the bottom of this post, you’ll find a list of all my hive mates who are participating in the Hop this week.

+++

So, let me introduce myself! My name is Lorinda Davis and I’ve been blogging here for just over a year. My quilting journey began back in the spring of 2013 when my (then home schooled) children each made a quilt block for a Civil War project. I was intrigued by the way the block changed so dramatically as a result of the kids’ different color and fabric choices. And as they say, the rest is history…. from that moment, I was hooked.

Over the last year, I’ve been building this blog, starting my fabric design portfolio, and have even started working on writing some quilt patterns.

Here are a few more tidbits about me:

Favorite color: Green, pink, purple, and blue… not necessarily in that order. Making me choose a favorite seems unfair.

Middle name: Belle (also my favorite Disney princess. I want her library.)

Favorite (non-quilty) pastimes: Hiking with my family, reading, singing and playing piano

Dream vacation: Tour of Europe with tons of time to really see things, visit museums, and get to know some locals. More realistically, my family has been itching for a Disney World trip lately.

If I could have one super-power: Super-speed! I could do so many fun things!

Here are some of my favorite projects over the last year.

On this Blog Hop, we’ve been asked to share our best blogging tips with you. My advice would be to have a consistent feature on your blog that will keep you posting regularly.
Each week, I do a post called Color Play Friday. My readers expect it, so I make sure to get it done. Having that feature has really helped keep me posting regularly, even if sometimes that’s all that gets posted for the week!
We’ve also been asked to give out a quilting tip. This is not a tip, per se, but if I could encourage you to do one thing, it would be to keep learning and keep challenging yourself. Find new techniques. Try your hand at garment sewing. Risk looking foolish and try something crazy with your quilting. The best way to get better at something is to test your boundaries a bit.

So, my question for you is this: What is your favorite thing about quilting?

For me, it’s the ‘bookends’ of a project… planning it and then hand binding it at the very end.

As promised, here is a list of all my hive mates who are participating in the Hop this week. Be sure to visit them all to find out more about them and their work. That’s really the best part of the Hop- getting to know new people!
