Home is Where the Heart is Blocks

About a month ago, I mentioned that I had made some Home is Where the Heart is blocks. This week, I decided to do a few more blocks in aqua and coral.

You can get the pattern for these blocks by taking Amy Gibson’s For Keeps Pledge. Amy is accepting donations and will be making these blocks into quilts for an organization called People Comforters of Evergreen, Colorado. I’m planning on sending these out in the next few days.

Another thing I did today was add a border to the quilt I talked about last week. I decided to name this one The Quilt of Champions, since it’s been completed during sports practices. Practice is where champions are made!

With this border, I’ve finished the quilt top. I will be basting it and starting the quilting later this week.

What are you all up to this week? I’d love to hear from you!

Happy Sewing, ~L

  1. Hi Lorinda! I’m fan of house blocks and yours are beautiful! What a fun and simple block and that will make a fantastic quilt! Have to try those blocks. I can imagine how fun it is to pick the colours for them. x Teje

  2. Gotta love agua and coral… explains why my Modern Aztec caught your eye 🙂 Your Quilt of Champions is awesome! How difficult was that to piece?

    1. Hi Kathy, thanks for stopping by! The sphere for Quilt of Champions took me over a year, but that was with a LONG stop in the middle. The pattern for the sphere is Called Windows Into My World. It was my first big English Paper Piecing project, so I learned things along the way that made it easier. If you do decide to try the pattern, my best bit of advice is to baste and press like crazy. The sections with the very acute angles are the hardest to do, since the fabric wants to slip and the points are so tiny that the template bends. On the super small sections on the top, bottom, left and right, the template is too small on the point to really hold the fabric, so I had to just sew where I thought the seamline should be. All that being said, because the pattern as a whole is so visually striking, small mistakes in accuracy along the way aren’t very noticeable once the whole thing is done.

    1. Thank you so much, Lori! I love your work and am so glad you stopped by and are enjoying the blog!. These blocks have been sent off to Amy Gibson to be added into the quilts she’s making for a charity in her area. I look forward to seeing what she does with them! Again, I’m so glad you stopped by. I’m a big fan of your blog and love doing the doodle tutorials!
